Hi guys..
i connect atx psu cable to imac.
Here is how:
• make 4 cables about 1 foot or as desired. i like choosing yellow and black
• open your imac. googling or simply click this link http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iMac-G5-17-Inch-Model-A1144-Power-Supply/950/1 (thanks ifixit.com)
• look for connector from the bad psu, you will see one brown, two black and two grey
brown is for switching power on ( i don't use it for now)
black is for ( - ) ground
grey is for (+ 12v )
• you will see the dc board that connected to psu
• disconnect the psu connector and leave it there, just incase you want to replace it in the future
• from the dc connector you will make 4 cables connect,
there are space from back dc connector to soldering but with precautions cause risk is yours
• before soldering make sure the position between cables and dc connector are perfectly fit.
i put the cable from the back of imac out vent. i bent the cable and make it easy to solder unless you have another hand to help holding cables to stay touching the back of dc connector pin.
• soldering the black with black cables you've made and grey with yellow cables
• and please make a good soldering, if you can not do that, ask for someone to do your job
• from outside the imac, there are 4 cables waiting to connect, two black and two yellow.
• prepare your atx psu. i have it with an on and off switch. design it with your own. make a box of it, or take the unused cables out from your atx psu. make a good look of it. googling it if you have to :)
• check your atx psu. is it on? . you can do that by put the green cable to black cable connect then turn it on, if the fan is spinning, you have it. or googling atx pinout to know it better.
• make 4 cables connector, you can find it in car accesories or just soldering and tape it.
• connect black from imac to black psu, yellow to yellow.
• done...
• final check all connections carefully.
• plug in your power cord atx, switch it on, and press the imac power button.
• fyi i put lcd display later, and take internal hd out. for minimize risk.
• don't use power plug from your imac, it's not turning your imac on and just wasting your electric
